startx equivalent for Wayland
by Dave Close
I detest a graphical login and insist on running in multi-user mode
(old runlevel 3). To start an X11 session after login, I can use the
startx command. But I haven't found an equivalent command to start a
Wayland session.
An old post on this list suggests using weston-launch. But dnf says
there is no package that includes such a command and I can't find any
other weston command that looks likely. Surely I can't be the only one
wanting to start from a command line?
(The target is a system running 64-bit F38 fully updated.)

Error: Failed to download metadata for repo 'epel': Cannot download
repomd.xml: Cannot download repodata/repomd.xml: All mirrors were tried
by Kaushal Shriyan
Hi,
I am running Red Hat Enterprise Linux release 8.7 (Ootpa) OS in production
environment. I have enabled both epel in /etc/yum.repos.d directory
There is a proxy server setup in the network. I have whitelisted the below
wildcard URLs as listed as per epel repo.
https://*.fedoraproject.org
*#cat /etc/yum.repos.d/epel.repo*
[epel]
name=Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 8 - $basearch
# It is much more secure to use the metalink, but if you wish to use a
local mirror
# place its address here.
#baseurl=https://download.example/pub/epel/8/Everything/$basearch
metalink=
https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=epel-8&arch=$basearch&inf...
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
countme=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-EPEL-8
I have only whitelisted https://*.fedoraproject.org on the http proxy
server. Do I need to whitelist any additional URLs to address the above
issue, or Am I missing anything?
#yum -y install htop
Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 8 - x86_64

https://mirrors.tuna.tsinghua.edu.cn/epel/8/Everything/x86_64/repodata/re...
[Operation

As you can see, http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/ choose a random mirror as
per the above output. I did run the below command.
[root@ yum.repos.d]# pwd
/etc/yum.repos.d
[root@ yum.repos.d]# grep -iR tsinghua.edu.cn *
[root@ yum.repos.d]#
I could not see the tsinghua.edu.cn URL in /etc/yum.repos.d.
Please suggest. Thanks in advance

Kaushal

Partition Type
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
Is there a way to mount these partitions?
Disk /dev/sdc: 3.83 MiB, 4014080 bytes, 7840 sectors
Disk model: Mass Storage
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disklabel type: dos
Disk identifier: 0x73696420
Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type
/dev/sdc1 1919950958 2464388050 544437093 259.6G 20 unknown
/dev/sdc2 1330184202 1869160489 538976288 257G 6b unknown
/dev/sdc3 538989391 1937352302 1398362912 666.8G 53 OnTrack DM6 Aux3
/dev/sdc4 * 1394627663 1394648999 21337 10.4M 49 unknown
Partition table entries are not in disk order.
Actually /dev/sdc2 is mount ls /run/media/user
It seems that sdc4 is bootable
The sizes seem bizarre
Thanks

restoring fedora boot manager
by Bill Cunningham
I had to reinstall my windows system which is fine it takes care of
itself. But, I have to install my entire fedora system from scratch. Is
there a way to simply reinstall the boot loader code without having to
install from scratch with a UEFI system? I'm sure there is but I don't
know about it. There's also a command called "efibootmgr" is this what I
am looking for? AFAIK fedora doesn't install more partitions but just
code in the /boot/efi partition. How can I reinstall or repair boot
loader code without touching the system? Without having to reinstalling
from scratch?

distrobox not working?
by Neal Becker
Just trying out distrobox on F38. I have 2 issues. One is it won't run a
container without root. The other is I don't think it's actually working
at all.
distrobox enter ubuntu-20
Container ubuntu-20 is not running.
Starting container ubuntu-20
run this command to follow along:
podman logs -f ubuntu-20
Error: OCI runtime error: unable to start container
"46a0c000c02583c2d4c4fb1e329de7a0f1daddc1d4bc812e7d0e409a2a353a8b": crun:

got `failed`
Now try with --root
[nbecker@ubuntu-20 ~]$ apt-get
bash: apt-get: command not found
OK, is this really a container running ubuntu? Doesn't seem to be, there's
no apt-get.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Neal

Other day get a message about about regex version not matching, and was told to
reintall container-selinux. That doesn't seem to fix issue.
Did find changing to minimum option gets rid of the regex message?
But why 2 of the machines seem to have no problem, but other 3 get same message?
