How to clean up Python in Fedora 38
by Javier Perez
Hi
Newbie/rookie in Python here
I installed Pycharm to learn python, installed some libraries using pip,
totally sure I must have screwed up something although I have not felt the
effect yet.
My question is, how can I go back to default without reinstalling my whole
linux setup from scratch? This is also my personal computer and I am sure
there are customizations even I forgot I set up in general. It would be
kind of a pain.
I know I cannot delete totally Python because linux uses it heavily
nowadays.
My goal is to delete whatever was installed through pip and stick to
packages from the repositories and reinstall a programming environment in a
reasoned, less haphazzard/ad hoc way.
Is Pycharm a good IDE or is there something better, particularly for a
newbie. I've seen Visual Editor but have never really used it.

Virtual Box not working after upgrade to Fedora 38
by Michael D. Setzer II
Did the install and created the new driver as it says, and it seems
to have the vboxdrv in the same relative place as it did with fc37,
but gives message that not found, but file is there??
modprobe vboxdrv
modprobe: FATAL: Module vboxdrv not found in directory
/lib/modules/6.4.12-200.fc38.x86_64
# find . | grep vboxdrv
./6.4.11-100.fc37.x86_64/extra/VirtualBox/vboxdrv.ko.xz
./6.4.12-100.fc37.x86_64/extra/VirtualBox/vboxdrv.ko.xz
./6.4.12-200.fc38.x86_64/extra/VirtualBox/vboxdrv.ko.xz
Any ideals why modprobe isn't seeing the driver that does exist??
Thanks.

unwanted login
by Beartooth
One of my F38 machines has taken to demanding that I login over
and over. I want not to have to login at all. (I'm the sole user, and at
home.) Fwiw, I'm running xscreensaver under Mate. Where and how do I
reconfigure?

problem with files in python3.11/gzip
by Eyal Lebedinsky
Running a compressing backup (afio) I get many errors in
/usr/lib64/python3.11/site-packages/scipy/
files here report zero timestamp, which makes gzip unhappy.
$ ls -l --full-time /usr/lib64/python3.11/site-packages/scipy/fftpack/__init__.py
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3200 1970-01-01 10:00:00.000000000 +1000 /usr/lib64/python3.11/site-packages/scipy/fftpack/__init__.py
$ gzip -kc /usr/lib64/python3.11/site-packages/scipy/fftpack/__init__.py >/dev/null
gzip: /usr/lib64/python3.11/site-packages/scipy/fftpack/__init__.py: warning: file timestamp out of range for gzip format
I cannot tell if this is a python3.11 issue, a packaging issue or a gzip issue. Here in Australia we are at UTC+10
Last update seems to be
2023-05-16T13:36:21+1000 DEBUG Upgraded: gzip-1.12-3.fc38.x86_64
2023-07-04T20:25:23+1000 DEBUG Upgraded: python3-scipy-1.10.1-1.fc38.x86_64
The backup done in 2023-07-01 did not show the problem so I suspect the python3 package.
TIA

Am upgrading a machine from Fedora 37 to Fedora 38.
Saw this as part of process.
Is there a process to clean this up?
Did they drop this groups, or renamed them??
Thanks.

Thanks, Stan. Finally, I was able to capture the log of
journalctl -xb
which is at:
