I don't think a comparison of the checksum for the .iso and for the sdc device is
necessarily a valid comparison but I'm not sure. I mean, unless your .iso and drive
are exactly the same size (one would assume they are not), you aren't comparing apples
to apples. The checksum of the sdc device would include all of the bits you wrote... plus
anything after that on the disk.

Oh yes, you are correct. /dev/sdc checks the entire contents, not
just what the iso wrote.
The stick seems to work well too. It is USB3 and I tested it
in USB2. (My USB3 card is non bootable. Curses!). And
really fast. Surprising with USB2!
Installing Xfce with this still is going to be a blast.
