Solution: Weird irritation with Firefox not lowering when I middle
click on it
by Thomas Cameron
I use Xfce on Fedora 38. I recently did a fresh install of the OS, and
somehow when I launched Firefox, it wasn't honoring my Xfce
configuration that lowers a window when I middle-click on the title bar.
The solution took a LOT of digging. I asked in #xfce on Libera Chat IRC,
and the folks there (shout out to NoobAlice) had me check all my Xfce
settings, and they were right. Then she had be right click on the menu
bar for Firefox, choose "Customize Toolbar," and check the box on the
lower left that says "Title Bar."
Once I did that, it exposed the title bar in Xfce, and middle click
worked as expected.
I'm posting it to the list so that, next time I forget about this trick,
I can Google it. :-D

First, "-o" requires options, so the command is not valid.
Second, "impossible de trouver" appears to be "can't find", which
would suggest there is no disk or partition with a UUID of
"9a71295a-04".
[[Google translate:

Again, "-o" requires options, so the commands are not valid.
Try:
sudo mount /dev/sda8 /boot/fedora
sudo mount /dev/sda6 /boot/fedora_home_or_bis

Shutdown command muted -- How to send alerts to GUI session?
by Robert Nichols
Now that terminal emulator sessions are no longer treated as separate logins, commands like "shutdown" and Network UPS Tools that try to use "wall" to alert users to impending doom are effectively muted.
This should probably be reported as a bug in the "shutdown" command, but what is the recommended way to send an alert tone and message to users' GUI sessions? Commands like "notify-send" and "xmessage" can display a message, but have no option to include an alert tone. Trying to send an alert sound from outside the X session just results in a "connection refused" message from pulseaudio. How can this be done?

dnf upgrade - problem with libheif packages

I'm using Fedora Workstation 37, Gnome.
While doing dnf upgrade I got these messages:

I tried that suggestion but got this instead:

Am I right in thinking this means I can just remove libheif-freeworld
if it is not used by anything? And then would that fix my upgrade
problems?

More fun with SSL certificates
by Patrick O'Callaghan
My small web server appears to be working and even has https, however
I've noticed this in /var/log/httpd/ssl_error_log:
[...] AH01909: bree.org.uk:443:0 server certificate does NOT include an ID which matches the server name
The ServerName is set to bree.org.uk, and that's the name under which I
obtained the certificate, so I'm not sure what's going on here.

Poweroff on Fedora 37
by t_pol
Hi all.
Frequently "systemctl poweroff" does NOT really "power off" the machine but simply halts the system.
Reading manual I've also tried to add opttion -i (--check-inhibitors=no) but it happens anyway.
Is there any way to investigate the reason why this happens ?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion.
Angelo

F38/Xfce - background DNF checks still going
by Robert Moskowitz
I thought I disabled dnfdragona from doing its 3? hour check for
anything new. But whenever I do a "dnf update" I see it starting with a
message like:
Last metadata expiration check: 1:46:14 ago on Wed 10 May 2023 02:52:06
PM EDT.
How do I stop this?
thanks
